Paul has written three books. “Invest Your Suffering” seeks to bring biblical encouragement out of their experience of chronic illness. “Staying Fresh” addresses the important subject of maintaining spiritual vitality in a busy and demanding world. “Invest Your Disappointments” asks, “What if we were to use disappointment as an opportunity to check whether our motivation and priorities were in line with God’s will? Could it provide a chance to grow?”
Paul loves reading military history and is a lifetime supporter of West Bromwich Albion.

Revd Dr Martin Cowan will speak on John Owen
Revd Andrew Conway will focus on Thomas Watson.
The conference begins at 10am with coffee and will conclude at 2.30pm.
The conference is free and open to all - please invite others to attend.
Please bring your own lunch – tea and coffee will be provided.
A personal Invitation from the Chairman of WF:
There was a time - in the not so distant past - when the threat to warmly evangelical Reformed Theology was from within our denomination. During my college days, we were mocked when we tried to garner what was best from the Puritans and the Westminster Divines. Now, in an era when Reformed Theology is much more firmly established in PCI, the evident pressure on us comes from external sources. We are surrounded by a radically changed society. Our decisions in General Assembly are ridiculed and our College has come under intensely hostile scrutiny and outright attack from the news media. Now, maybe more than ever, we need one another in a warm Fellowship of support and mutual encouragement. I hope you can make attending this conference a priority in your busy schedules. I warmly commend the day conference to you. The day will include opportunities to pray for one another and enjoy fellowship.

WF Day Conference
10 am Monday 29 February 2016
Templeton Hotel, Templepatrick
"Crying in the Wilderness" Ministering in a Secular Age
Dr Dan Strange
Academic Vice Principal of Oak Hill College, London
Thirty years ago a PCI Minister said to me that he was glad he was having his ministry then because it looked as if things were going to get harder for ministers in the future as society continued its drift away from God.
There is no doubt that the secular age is well and truly upon us and ministry has challenges today in Ireland that it has not had before. But the corollary is that, in God's sovereignty, we have opportunities that we have not had before. The questions then is, How can we best serve the Lord and proclaim and live for Christ in the culture and climate of today?
To assist us in considering what it is like to be preachers of God's Word and pastors of God's people in a secular society that is at best ambivalent to God and at worst intensely hostile to our Lord, the WF Committee has invited Dr Dan Strange to address us. We are glad he accepted our invitation.
Dan is the Academic Vice Principal of Oak Hill College in London. He lectures in Culture, Religion and Public Theology, having previously been involved in theological student ministry with UCCF. He has authored several books including "From the Rock" and "Confident, why we can trust the Bible." He comes to us with a grounding in Biblical Theology and a passion for relevant Gospel engagement.
The venue for the Conference is the Templeton Hotel in Templepatrick and is an all day Conference which will include lunch and an evening meal. There will be four sessions of teaching interspersed with times of prayer and refreshments. Come at 10:00am for coffee and the first session will begin at 10:30am.
This is the kind of conference that will not only benefit Ministers, but others in congregational life also. If you're coming, why not invite one or two others so that they can hear and be encouraged and blessed by Dan's ministry.
To book in, please contact Bob Allely, whose detail are below. The cost will be £30 and represents excellent spiritual and practical value for a small amount of money.

Dear Friends
Speaking personally, one of the ways in which God, “makes me lie down in green pastures and leads me beside quiet waters,’ is by granting me opportunities for fellowship, prayer and Word in the Westminster Fellowship. I suspect I am not alone. Which is why I am prioritising attendance at the Glenada Conference on 10th February 2014.
It is a blessing to pray together - to pray with and for one another in an atmosphere of mutual Christian love and service. It is a blessing to share fellowship and renew friendships in the midst of busy church life.
It is also a blessing to be fed from God’s Word and address matters with a desire to be both refreshed and challenged.
This year, Marcus Honeysett has been invited to address the WF. His overall theme is, “Leaders for Discipleship and Mission.” The desire of the WF Committee was to pursue this theme in order to provide much needed spiritual food and biblical and practical instruction for all its members.
Marcus is the Founding Director of Living Leadership, an organisation which equips and trains churches, pastors and leaders for effective ministry and Christian service in the 21st Century. Living Leadership is also on the front line of the ministry of spiritual refreshment, encouragement and spiritual sustenance - disciplines which are so often neglected but are essential for those involved in pastoral ministry.
Please do mark this date in your diary and reserve it for your spiritual benefit. And pray that God will use the Day Conference as His means of, “restoring all our souls.”

Couples Dinner
Friday 21st March 2014 at 7.00pm
Montgomerys Restaurant, Ballymena
Friday 21st March 2014 at 7.00pm
Montgomerys Restaurant, Ballymena
Dear Colleague
The WF Committee is keen to promote fellowship amongst ministry couples. Too often our wives can feel isolated and alone. So a Couples Dinner, in a relaxed atmosphere, with another couple in active ministry sharing from their wisdom and experience, might be of great benefit and blessing to us.
Therefore, please put the above event in your diary and prioritize it so that nothing, bar emergencies, will squeeze it out.
Our guests for the evening at Philip and Catherine Campbell. Philip is the Pastor of Coleraine Congregational, having been an evangelist with The Evangelisation Society for many years before that. Catherine is a well know author and speaker at Ladies' Conferences. Indeed many us will have read her books and many of our wives will have heard her speak at other events. They have three children. Paul is part of the Ministry Team in Knock Presbyterian. Their two daughter, Cheryl and Joy, both born with profound disabilities, are now in heaven.
The costs have not been finalised but we expect it will cost in the region of £30 - £40 per couple. We are confident it will be a very worthwhile evening.
Bookings are to be made to Bob Allely: [email protected]
Menu choices will be coming in the new year.
Hoping to see you there,

Autumn Conference
"Gospel-Centred Good Relationships"
Thursday 19th September 2013
Dear Friends
The term, "A Shared Future" is one which is on our Politicians’ lips very frequently today. However, the Gospel message alone is able to break down the barriers that sin and sinful actions and attitudes have created.
In this Autumn Conference we hope to explore Biblically and from a Reformed perspective our responsibility to love the Lord our God and to love our neighbours in His name and for His glory.
We are delighted to have two of, "our own" to be the guest speakers. Dr Stafford Carson will expound this truth from Scripture and speak of its practical out-working in a local situation. Rev Stephen Johnston will lead us in thinking about how we can live out the Gospel so as to validate what we preach, particularly in our fractured community.
As always, there will be time to pray together during the Conference.
The Venue is Moira Presbyterian Church Hall, Meeting Street, Co Down, BT67 0NR.
Arrive 10:00am for coffee, Conference starting at 10:30am, ending at 3:30pm.
Tea and Coffee is provided, but don't forget to bring your own packed lunch.
As usual, please book with Bob Allely ( [email protected] ) no later than Monday 16th September.

EMBERS TO A FLAME
CONFERENCE CANCELLED
It is with a sense of great sadness that the, “Embers to a Flame” (ETAF) Conference, due to take place on 27th & 28th May 2013 in Wellington Presbyterian, Ballymena, has now been cancelled. As a Committee we apologize to you for having had to do so but the circumstances were completely unforeseen.
Dr Harry Reeder was diagnosed with cancer just over one week ago. The treatment for his illness begins at the end of April and will last for several weeks. Thankfully the prognosis is positive and it is hoped that he will make a full recovery - please uphold him in prayer. However he will be left weak after the therapy and will need a significant period of time to recuperate.
The ETAF Team were unable to guarantee the WF Committee that what we had advertised widely, could be delivered without Dr Reeder. That being so, after earnest prayer and considerable discussion, we believed we had no honourable option, other than to cancel.
The ETAF Team contacted those who were organising events and informed them of the news. They left final decisions with the local organisers. WF Committee, having given the matter considered thought and earnest prayer, decided that it would be best to cancel the Conference and wait upon the Lord for guidance as to the future.
Please be assured that the theme of Church Revitalization remains one which we will be positively advancing in the months ahead. With over 250 people having planned to attend, we feel it is a theme both important and relevant to people and to churches.
This is an initial email to inform people at the earliest possible opportunity of the Conference cancellation. It is the Committee’s intention to contact everyone who had booked to attend and send them a full refund of their registration. We would ask you please to be patient with us as we do this in the next three to four weeks. And if you come to know of anyone who has not received their registration money by the start of June, please put them in contact with us.
Being aware that many have booked time off work and arranged their diaries for the Conference, we are keen to get this information out urgently to as many as possible, so we ask for your help in spreading it far and wide.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either the Chairman or the Secretary.

RECOMENDATIONS
“Harry Reeder is pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama,
one of the largest congregations in the PCA. His “Embers to a Flame” course has
been used widely and many pastors and churches have been enriched by his insights.
Through this course, Dr Reeder alerts us to potential problems in our churches, and
helps us to apply biblical principles in order to rekindle the flames of godly growth.
Nostalgia for past “glory days”, a maintenance mentality, and a distraction from the
gospel are all signs that a church is in need of revitalisation. I believe that most Irish
Presbyterian congregations are in need of some level of renewal and this conference
will be of great benefit to us all.”
Stafford Carson
Former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
“I am delighted to commend to you Pastor Harry Reeder. Harry is a major voice in
the Presbyterian Church in America. I believe his congregation is among the largest,
if not the largest, in the entire denomination. His heart is on fire for the revival of
the church, and his theological instincts for the same are biblical and reliable. He
serves, as I do, on the council of The Gospel Coalition, which the Lord is using as
a gospel-centred rallying point for the next generation of pastors and leaders in this
country. I believe Harry will be a great encouragement to you in Ireland -- as you
will be to him, I am sure.”
Ray Ortlund
Speaker at the 2010 WF Conference on “The Reformed theology of Revival”
“Harry Reeder’s story of how God transformed a small, comfortable, dying
congregation provides many of the illustrations in this practical, challenging, people
focused and God-centred course. Learning from a team of committed Bible teachers,
discussing and praying together, as reformed thinking is applied to my daily ministry
experience, did my heart good. Embers has encouraged me greatly in pastoral
ministry in Dublin.”
Chris Kennedy
Minister of Dun Laoghaire Presbyterian Church
Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church New York, writing on the book
entitled “From Embers to a Flame, How God can Revitalize your church’, said, “Harry
Reeder is more than a great preacher--he is gifted at spiritually revitalizing local
congregations. And unless your church is a brand-new church plant, it needs some level of
renewal! So we all can learn much for this volume”.

Day Conference "Spiritual Leadership" 2013
Speaker ; Graham Cheesman.
Venue ; Glenada Guest House, Newcastle.
Date ; Monday 18th February 2013
Time; from 10.am to 7.30pm.
If only leadership was simple and uncomplicated! As Ministers and Elders, we of all people know it is not. Being in church and spiritual leadership is an enormous privilege and one for which we thank God. But, there are great responsibilities that accompany such a calling and we constantly depend upon the Lord for His enabling grace, His indwelling Spirit and His guiding Word for our help.
The theme for the Glenada Conference this year is, "Spiritual Leadership." Dr Graham Cheesman, formerly the Principal of Belfast Bible College and up until recently the Director of the Centre of Theological Education in Belfast, will be speaking to us on that subject. He has a particular interest in spiritual leadership and has sought to encourage people in Christian ministry in their roles for many years. He has great academic knowledge of the topic, but more than that, having been both a Pastor in England and a Missionary in Nigeria, he comes to us with practical experience of what it means to be a servant devoted to God and a servant devoted to God's people.
Also at the Conference, we are delighted to have Dr Patrick Mitchel with us, a former member of Hamilton Road Presbyterian in Bangor and now an elder in Maynooth Community Church. He is the Director of Studies at the Irish Bible Institute in Dublin, a place of theological training serving the developing evangelical witness in the Republic of Ireland. Patrick will be sharing with us something of the work of IBI and its strategic place in the education of people who are in Gospel ministry and leadership in the Republic of Ireland.
There will be opportunity for prayer together during the day as we intercede for one another. And of course, it is always good to have the opportunity to catch up with old friends over coffee and make one or two new ones too.
The Venue is Glenada Conference Centre in Newcastle, Co Down, BT33 0EX. Arrive 9:45am for coffee, Conference ending at 7:30pm. Lunch and Dinner provided.
As usual, please book with Bob Allely ( [email protected] ) no later than Friday 8th February. Cost, £30. Students, £15.
I hope you can make it. I'm sure you will benefit from it.
